a phone or Discord chat; I am open to text chats and emails regardless
of how much is bid).

Canonically trans or nonbinary chars, F/F ships, Gen (no ship) or
platonic works, Rarepairs, Trans or nonbinary interpretations of canon
characters
Fanwork Details:
I am a blind person with not only my own lived experience
but a partial MA in blindness rehabilitation services. I have done
sensitivity reading in the past for authors writing blind characters
and would be happy to do so again for a good cause. I can give you
info on what our daily lives are like, some historical perspectives if
you are writing in a more fantasy setting, explain how some of our
more unique tools like white canes and braille work, and of course
read over any material you have written that includes blind characters
you want to be better representations of my community.
Relevant experience/background:
Over 40 years lived experience being blind, a huge network
of blind friends, knowledge of many blindness organizations and
resources, both a white cane and guide dog user, most of an MA in
working with the blind
Additional notes about labor offered:
While this is mostly focused on blindness, if you would like
any arro/ace or nonbinary perspectives I am happy to put forth my two
cents through the lens of someone who lives these experiences as
well.
Characters/pairings of interest:
I love strong female characters and anyone under the queer
umbrella. I'm a big fan of sci-fi and fantasy but am happy to work in
other genres.
Subjects/theme/tropes of interest:
I'm pretty open to most themes and tropes. Can't think of
any that stand out in specific.
Unwilling to address:
I would like to avoid themes where blind people are
portrayed as helpless or incompetent as a major part of their
character. It's fine if they might start out that way, though I am not
fond of the sighted savior trope either (where someone with sight
brings a newly blind person out of their shell). Sickness and recovery
themes are okay so long as they lead into more than solely focusing on
the disability and feeling bad about being disabled or needing to be
cared for indefinitely.
Other notes:
Get ready to learn A Lot about blindness! This is a subject
near and dear to my heart so be prepared to have your ear talked off
about it! I will be honest about what I think about your portrayals of
blind people but I will do my best to be nice about it. I may send you
a few old videos I made that talk about the basics of things like
braille if that sounds like it would be useful for your project. I am
also likely to ask what you know about blindness coming into this and
I do recommend reading some basic info like the National Federation of
the Blind's FAQ about blindness and the FAQ page from a guide dog
school like The Seeing Eye (if guide dogs are part of your story). I'm
a friendly and open person when it comes to talking about blindness so
don't be afraid to ask whatever questions you have as bluntly as you
need to; I understand that most people can only speak from what
knowledge they currently have and you won't offend me by being
earnestly curious.
Auctions run from 8:00AM EST, 25 February 2025, to 8:00PM EST, 1 March 2025. Bids before or after this period are invalid and will not be counted. If you would like to bid on this auction:
Step 1: Check the bidding spreadsheet to find out what the current high bid is. (Note: It may take up to five minutes for a bid to appear.)
Step 2: Fill out the creator's bidding form with a bid that is higher than the current high bid. If you want to make it harder for someone to outbid you, bid higher! We will NOT notify you if someone outbids you. FTH will only notify you if you are the high bidder after the auctions end.
